Sasha Allen has been the sole openly transgender contestant to have been through the Battle Rounds of The Voice Live Shows. It has been true for 21 seasons. Sasha Allen and Jim Newtown, Conn. duo are now part of the top 8 of the contest! Sasha made it known that he's transgender when he presented their audition package at the Blind Auditions. According to Parade.com, this was not an easy decision. Sasha changed his gender in high school, and stated that it was challenging to disclose such an intimate side of him to individuals. Support from the audience and the effect that it has had on people, even though it was a difficult one and was the main reason that has convinced Sasha that this transition was worth it. "We did it prior to when The Voice was even a feature in our lives. We were thrilled when we heard the song. The song was one we were familiar with and had some plans to put it together.
